On the evening of Victory Day on May 9, a minute of silence is traditionally held in Russia in memory of the participants of the Great Patriotic War. Izvestia is broadcasting a commemorative event.

One of the key rituals of the holiday was first broadcast on the 20th anniversary of the Victory in 1965. Since then, every year on May 9, at the same time, a minute of silence is announced on the screens of the country and on the radio, preceded by words of gratitude to the victorious soldiers and home front workers.
