A forest fire broke out on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border
A new forest fire broke out in a forest in Ukraine 30 m from its border with the Republic of Belarus. This was reported on May 8 in the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Forestry.
"The threat of a cross-border fire. A forest in Ukraine is burning 30 m from the border. <...> The Milosevic forestry enterprise of the Gomel region is in the risk zone," the agency said in a Telegram channel.
It is clarified that this fire is not part of what was previously registered in the Chernobyl exclusion Zone. This situation is currently being monitored by representatives of the forestry sector.
On the same day, the State Service of Ukraine announced that a large-scale forest fire had started in the Chernobyl exclusion zone. At that time, the fire had already covered 1,100 hectares and was spreading with the help of strong gusts of wind. Representatives of the Belarusian Ministry of Forestry later reported that this incident was developing approximately only 7 km from their border. They added that there is no threat of fire on their territory and stressed that they continue to closely monitor the situation.
