An acute reluctance to return to work after a vacation or a long weekend is a natural neurobiological reaction. Psychiatrist and psychotherapist Anton Shestakov told about this on Friday, May 8.

The specialist explained in an interview with Lenta.Ru It is shown that during rest, the brain rebuilds the mode of operation: the level of the stress hormone cortisol decreases, dopamine, which is a neurotransmitter of pleasure and motivation, stabilizes, and the activity of the prefrontal cortex, the area of the brain responsible for planning and self—control, normalizes.

At the same time, returning to the office activates the amygdala, the center of anxiety in the brain, and provokes the so—called post-release dysphoric affect - a painfully lowered mood associated with an abrupt change of context. Therefore, the brain resists the transition from a state of security to a state of demands and workload.

Shestakov noted that gradual readaptation can cope with this. He recommended that you start following your sleep and wake-up routine a day or two before going to work. This allows the internal biological clock to adjust without stress.

You can make a list of two or three simple tasks for the first day. Performing even small tasks triggers a sense of satisfaction, which gradually restores work motivation.

At the same time, the expert noted that if the desire to quit does not go away 1-2 weeks after the vacation and is accompanied by persistent apathy, sleep disorders and decreased performance, it may be clinical burnout. In this case, it is worth contacting a specialist, he concluded.

Earlier, psychologist and Gestalt therapist Elena Masolova told Izvestia that defending personal boundaries would help to stop harassment at work. She drew attention to the fact that mobbing very rarely occurs in newly formed groups. People have just met, they haven't started forming coalitions yet.

Clinical psychologist Lilia Gladkikh said on April 30 that if a person constantly works on holidays without objective necessity, this may be a signal of disloyal attitude towards himself. 360.ru .

Olga Kushnareva, a family psychologist and psychotherapist, said on April 28 that regular work without proper rest can lead to serious health problems and the accumulation of chronic stress.

In turn, Elena Shpagina, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Institute of Management Technologies of RTU MIREA, told the Moscow city News agency that due to a sense of duty and the effect of unfinished business, country work during the May holidays can be more exhausting than a working week in the office.
