Ambassador Darchiev said about the difficult restoration of relations between Russia and the United States

The dialogue and contacts between representatives of Russia and the United States on the restoration of bilateral relations are not easy and rather slow, but they are still continuing. This was announced on May 8 by Russian Ambassador to the United States Alexander Darchiev.

The diplomat answered questions from Russian journalists during a reception at the Russian Embassy in Washington, dedicated to the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII).

"Contacts and dialogue continue. To be honest, it's not easy, but it's coming. That's the most important thing. The process is underway," TASS quoted him as saying.

At the same time, the pace of communication has noticeably decreased, the Foreign Ministry acknowledged.

Darchiev said that the latest conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump could have a positive impact on improving relations between the two countries. In general, Washington is positive about developing a dialogue with Moscow.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on May 7 that she would inform about new contacts between Moscow and Washington. The diplomat also added on May 8 that former US Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama left behind "Augean stables" that Russia and the current US leadership will have to clear.
