The dog handler named effective ways to protect dogs from ticks
The main rule to follow when protecting a dog during the tick season is to use comprehensive protection. This opinion was expressed by the President of the Russian Cynological Federation, Vladimir Golubev, on Thursday, May 8. He drew attention to the fact that experts identify basic and auxiliary tools among all possible means.
According to the expert, the main means include pills and drops on the withers.
"The principle of operation is as follows: the substances of the pills are absorbed into the blood, and the parasite dies when bitten. While the drops are distributed over the skin with the help of sebum, and the parasite also dies upon contact," the dog handler explained in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
Golubev added that there are also supportive measures. So, special pet sprays are used once during a hike in the forest or field, they have a temporary deterrent effect. But when using this product, there is a high risk of uneven treatment, in addition, the repellent is washed off with water, the dog handler warned.
There are also tick collars. However, the specialist believes that this method is not very effective, and ticks can still get under the collar.
"Modern veterinary medicine also offers a vaccine against pyroplasmosis. It does not prevent tick bites or even block infection by 100%. Its main task is to reduce the severity of the disease and minimize the risks of death. The vaccine does not cancel out the main treatment for parasites," Golubev said.
The dog handler emphasized that the best approach is comprehensive protection. For example, tablets can be supplemented with a repellent before going for a walk outside the city.
He added that no remedy provides a 100% guarantee of protection, so it is necessary to avoid particularly dangerous places during a walk and examine the dog at home. You can also have a special tick hook at home, just in case, with which you can remove the parasite. It is removed by twisting movements, and the wound is treated with an antiseptic.
Golubev warned that a change in the color of a pet's urine is a sign of pyroplasmosis, and delay is deadly — you should urgently contact a veterinary clinic.
Representatives of Rospotrebnadzor reported on May 7 that ticks that live in Russia are capable, in addition to encephalitis, of carrying viruses such as Badges nayrovarus, Mukava and Nuomin, also known as Lesnoe, RT reports.
In the North-West of the country, scientists have already discovered these pathogens, according to the website. kp.ru .
In turn, Ekaterina Boldyreva, an infectious disease specialist at the Sberbank Health medical company, said that infectious agents such as borrelia and encephalitis virus are found in the salivary glands and intestines of the tick. 360.ru .
