A monument of the Great Patriotic War (WWII), restored by the Victory Monuments project, has been unveiled in the Kyrgyz village of Ottuk on the western shore of Lake Issyk-Kul. The ceremony took place on May 8 on the eve of Victory Day.

The event was attended by local authorities, Russian diplomats, representatives of public organizations and villagers. In recent months, the project has also restored in Kyrgyzstan a memorial in the courtyard of school No. 7 in Bishkek, dedicated to students and teachers who died on the fronts. The monument was also restored in the village of Blagoveshchenka.

The project participants not only repair individual facilities, but also create an environment to remember the Great Patriotic War. Schools and universities are involved in the work. So, the participants of the initiative have created an interactive map on which any user can put a monument from their locality. In addition, round tables are held within the framework of Victory Monuments, documentary exhibitions are organized, and bilingual manuals are published.

The organizers of the project emphasize that the restoration of memorials is not only the preservation of historical heritage, but also a way to maintain communication between generations. In Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and other post-Soviet countries, Victory Monuments continues to work with monuments that have been left unattended.

The day before, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that the military personnel of the Center group of forces had restored more than 80 monuments, mass graves and memorials in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) to mark the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The work was carried out in the liberated settlements located in the rear and frontline areas of the special military operation. Each division of the group took over the restoration of individual facilities.
