- Dmitriev linked potential negotiations between the European Union and Russia with the energy crisis
The energy crisis has forced the European Union (EU) to "open its eyes" to the situation. This opinion was expressed by Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).
"The energy crisis opens wide—closed eyes," he wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
This is how Dmitriev commented on an article by the Financial Times newspaper about the EU's preparations for potential negotiations with Russia.
The head of the European Council, Antonio Costa, whose words were quoted by the Financial Times newspaper, said on May 7 that EU leaders were discussing possible negotiations with Russia when "the right moment comes for this." According to him, he is negotiating with the leaders of the 27 EU countries to determine the best way to organize the work and understand what needs to be discussed with Russia.
