Ambassador Darchiev spoke about the prospect of establishing relations between Russia and the United States.

The latest conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump may have a positive impact on improving relations between the two countries. This was announced on May 8 by Russian Ambassador to the United States Alexander Darchiev.

According to him, contacts continue to be maintained at the moment, but the process itself is not easy. Nevertheless, he noted that Washington is positively determined to develop a dialogue with Moscow. Darchiev himself also shared his positive attitude towards continuing conversations, adding that there are reasons for this.

"The most important thing is that there is a positive attitude, which contrasts with what it was for four years under the previous administration," Darchiev said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

In addition, the Russian ambassador recalled that Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Secretary of State Marco Rubio agreed to keep in touch after the last contact.

At the same time, the pace of communication has noticeably decreased, the Foreign Ministry acknowledged.

On May 5, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Lavrov and Rubio had a telephone conversation, during which they discussed the international agenda and the schedule of bilateral contacts between Moscow and Washington. It is specified that during the telephone conversation, the relations of the two states and the Ukrainian conflict were discussed.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on May 7 that she would inform about new contacts between Moscow and Washington. On May 8, Russian Ambassador Darchiev announced that the United States administration had begun to treat Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War (WWII) differently. He noted that "Immortal Regiment" actions were held in the center of Washington and on the territory of the embassy.
