Russia has brought its position on the new draft resolution on Hormuz to the UN Security Council.

Russia has conveyed to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) its position and key concerns on the draft resolution on the Strait of Hormuz by the United States and Bahrain. This was announced on May 8 at the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations.

"Our position, including key concerns about the text, have been communicated in detail to all members of the Security Council," the mission said in a Telegram message.

It is clarified that the Russian side also opposes dangerous attempts to saturate the document with unbalanced formulations, as well as unilateral demands on the Iranian side.

In addition, the Russian permanent mission called on colleagues in the Security Council to avoid "artificially escalating tensions," including by promoting one-sided and confrontational draft documents. The mission expressed its conviction that such an approach is fraught with the risks of a new wave of escalation in the Middle East with "the most unpredictable consequences."

The Russian diplomats also recalled that the Russian Federation has consistently advocated an end to violence and a political and diplomatic settlement with a stable agreement between Washington and Tehran since the beginning of the conflict.

Negotiations are going hard, but a breakthrough in certain areas is possible.

On April 7, Russia, together with China, blocked the adoption of a draft resolution on the situation in Hormuz and put forward an alternative document calling on the parties to cease hostilities and start negotiations.

Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, said on March 11 that Bahrain's resolution adopted by the United Nations Security Council was biased and one-sided. He added that Russia had proposed to the authors of the resolution to condemn attacks not only on the Persian Gulf countries, but also on the territory of Iran, but the proposal was ignored.
