The 1961 world champion in fencing, Tatiana Lyubetskaya, has died.
The winner of the World Fencing Championship as part of the USSR national team, Tatyana Lyubetskaya, died at the age of 86. This was announced on May 7 by the press service of the Russian Fencing Federation (FFR).
"The Russian Fencing Federation is saddened to announce that Honored Master of Sports of the USSR, world champion, USSR Cup winner, writer and journalist Tatyana Lvovna Lyubetskaya has passed away at the age of 85," the press service said in a Telegram channel.
The organization did not specify the causes of the athlete's death.
Lyubetskaya won gold at the 1961 World Championships in the foil team event. She held the title of Honored Master of Sports of the USSR and was the winner of the national Cup. After completing her sports career, Lyubetskaya worked in journalism and also wrote several books on fencing.
