The Victory Day Parade began on Red Square

On May 9, a military parade dedicated to the 81st anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War started on Red Square in Moscow.

During the solemn event, parade troops of military educational institutions of all types and branches of the Russian Army will march through the square. In addition, aerobatic flight groups are expected to fly over Red Square.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin will speak at the parade. The presidents of six foreign countries, the Supreme Ruler of Malaysia, Sultan Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, and the head of Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sinisa Karan, are also participating in the Victory Day celebrations.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on May 3 that the whole world was waiting for Putin to speak at the Victory Day Parade. According to him, such attention to the president's speech is completely justified, it, as always, will be very important.

According to VTsIOM data from May 7, Victory Day is the most important holiday for 67% of Russian citizens. May 9 remains the second most popular holiday date in the country after New Year.
