Airlines that cancel flights due to rising fuel prices are required to compensate affected passengers. This was announced on May 7 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper.

EU Transport Commissioner Anpostolos Tsitsikotas said that flight cancellations due to rising fuel prices are not considered extraordinary circumstances, which means that airlines are still required to compensate passengers for losses.
