Elderly people are prone to diseases such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes and Alzheimer's disease. This was announced on May 7 by Alexander Rumyantsev, President of the Dmitry Rogachev National Medical Research Center for Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Immunology, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

"The most important diseases of the elderly are hypertension and type 2 diabetes," the academician told RIA Novosti.

In addition, the expert noted such psychological disorders as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.

Medical Xpress magazine reported on April 21 that experts have found that physical, social, and intellectual activity in middle age significantly improves cognitive function. Playing the piano, traveling to other countries, and actively socializing with friends are the most effective ways to reduce the risk of developing dementia. Scientists have also identified the factors that have the most negative effect on brain function. These include symptoms of depression, traumatic brain injury, diabetes, hypertension, sleep disorders, and hearing problems.
