Russian military personnel held a St. George Ribbon rally in the center of Donetsk.
Soldiers of the 6th Tank Regiment of the 90th Guards Tank Division of the Center group of forces held a St. George Ribbon action in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) on the eve of the 81st anniversary of the Great Victory Day. This was announced on May 7 by the Russian Defense Ministry.
"We are distributing St. George's ribbons to local residents of Donetsk, the hero city, and honoring the memory of our ancestors. The St. George ribbon is also a symbol of Victory," said squad commander Dmitry Kochev.
The event took place in the Alexander Shcherbakov Central Park of Culture and Recreation, where military personnel presented St. George's ribbons to the vacationing residents in honor of the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War (WWII). The campaign is designed to preserve the memory of the feat of the ancestors and pass it on to the younger generation.
Russian servicemen not only presented ribbons, but also told adults and children about the symbolism of the badge and its role in the history of the country. The servicemen noted that they received a lot of positive emotions from communicating with local residents, and the action provoked a positive response.
On May 6, the press service of the Moscow Military District reported that on the eve of Victory Day, servicemen of the separate motorized rifle brigade of the Sevastopol 1st Guards Tank Army of the Moscow Military District held a patriotic action "St. George Ribbon" in the capital. It is noted that during the campaign aimed at preserving the memory of the heroic deed of the Soviet people in the Second World War, more than 1,000 St. George ribbons were distributed to citizens. In addition, the military of the Sevastopol brigade told residents and guests of the capital about the rules of wearing ribbons.
