- Russian Armed Forces soldiers have restored more than 80 monuments to WWII heroes on the territory of the DPR
The military personnel of the Center group of forces have restored more than 80 monuments, mass graves and memorials in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) for the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. This was announced on May 7 by the Russian Defense Ministry.
"On the eve of this historic great day, Victory Day, the sixth Guards Tank Regiment did not stand aside and actively participates in the restoration of military monuments. In this case, we are restoring the Soviet IS-3 heavy tank," said Sergey Kuznetsov, Deputy battalion commander for military and political work.
The work was carried out in the liberated settlements located in the rear and frontline areas of the special military operation. Each division of the group took over the restoration of individual facilities.
The military cleaned the walls, repaired the paths, restored the figures of soldiers and tinted the elements of the memorials. It is noted that the work was carried out on the initiative of military personnel in their free time from combat missions.
"It's not just an idea, it's kind of commonplace for us. Every year, from the very first day of the start of the special military operation (SVO), our battalion restores monuments on the territory of the DPR, Lugansk People's Republic (LNR), Kherson and Zaporizhia, in the regions where we were located," said Danil Kulinich, deputy commander of the battalion for military and political work.
The Russian Defense Ministry stressed that the restoration of monuments helps preserve the memory of the heroic deeds of Soviet soldiers and emphasize the continuity of generations.
On May 6, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that on the eve of Victory Day, servicemen of the Msta-S self-propelled artillery unit (ACS) from the 35th Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Center group of forces operating in the Dobropolsky area in the military district joined the All-Russian action "Immortal Regiment". The Immortal Regiment campaign, held on Victory Day in Russia and a number of other countries, plays an important role in preserving historical memory and passing it on to future generations.
