In South Africa, virologists have identified the hantavirus strain that killed three passengers on the MV Hondius cruise ship. This was announced on May 6 by South African Minister of Health Aaron Motsoaledi during a speech before the health committee of the national Parliament.

"Initial tests show that this is indeed a strain from Andes," the French newspaper Le Figaro quoted the minister as saying.

According to him, this is the only strain out of 38 known that can be transmitted between humans.
