- The Presidents of Lithuania and Poland declared their readiness to receive the military being withdrawn from Germany.
Lithuania and Poland can receive and deploy 5,000 American troops on their territories, which the United States plans to withdraw from Germany. This was announced on May 6 by Polish and Lithuanian leaders Karol Nawrocki and Gitanas Nauseda.
"First of all, we are interested in ensuring that the military being withdrawn from Germany remains in Europe," Nauseda said during a joint press conference with the Polish president.
In addition, the Lithuanian leader noted that the country is ready to accept as many US military personnel "as it can." Navrotsky, in turn, expressed a similar opinion. He noted that Poland has all the necessary infrastructure to accommodate the military.
On May 1, the Reuters news agency, citing the Pentagon, reported that the United States would withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany within 6-12 months. It is noted that the reduction in the number of troops will allow the number of American troops in Europe to return approximately to the level that existed before 2022.
Austrian geopolitical analyst Patrick Poppel noted on May 2 that the withdrawal of US troops from Germany is perceived very positively by many Germans, but Washington's decision may be a signal for the European Union (EU). He also pointed to attempts by European states to act independently in the field of armaments, which, according to him, could lead to an escalation in relations with Russia.
