- Trump called it unlikely that Witkoff and Kushner would be sent to negotiate with Iran.
On May 6, US President Donald Trump called it "unlikely" that his son-in-law, businessman Jared Kushner, and special representative Steve Witkoff would be sent to Iran to sign the deal, as this process could be organized in the United States.
"Unlikely. I think we can do it here," he said in an interview with Liz Landers, a journalist for the American television service PBS News.
Trump, speaking about the potential signing of documents with the Islamic Republic, reiterated his optimistic attitude on this issue. He called the chance of reaching an agreement "very good," but warned that if Tehran does not meet halfway, Washington will have to "return to old methods."
During the same conversation, the head of the White House confirmed his intention to ease sanctions against Iran if it agrees to the conditions put forward to it. He stated that the text sent to Tehran did not specify permission for him to enrich uranium at the level of 3.67%, and there were no clauses on the use of his underground facilities.
On the same day, Trump announced the prematurity of direct negotiations with the Iranian side, and also said that the bombing of Iran would resume with greater force if representatives of this country refused to conclude a deal.
