Trump named Ted Turner, the deceased founder of CNN, as a friend.
On Wednesday, May 6, US President Donald Trump named Ted Turner, the deceased founder of CNN, as a friend.
"Ted Turner, one of the greatest men of all time, has just died. He founded CNN... He is one of the greatest people in the history of broadcasting and my friend," The News International quoted him as saying.
Turner died at the age of 88, reports RT.
Mark Thompson, Chairman and CEO of CNN Worldwide, said Turner was an extremely involved and dedicated leader, fearless and always ready to support his intuition and trust his own judgment. 360.ru .
Turner was born on November 19, 1938 in Cincinnati. In 1960, he started working in the family business and became the general manager of one of the branches of his father's company. After his father's death in 1963, he took over the family business and managed to turn it into a profit.
One of the key stages in his career was the purchase of the loss-making television station WJRJ-TV in 1970. A few years later, it became one of the most profitable independent TV channels in the United States.
In 1980, Turner launched CNN, the world's first 24—hour news channel. The idea of continuous news broadcasting was initially questioned by experts, but the channel quickly gained popularity. Turner considered the creation of CNN to be the main achievement of his life.
In addition to working in the media business, Turner was involved in charity work and also advocated for the reduction of nuclear weapons.
Turner has been suffering from severe dementia for the past eight years, IA Regnum reports.
