Sobyanin spoke about the preservation of cultural heritage sites in Moscow
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin praised the work of the city's services to preserve buildings and structures in the capital "with a rich history." The mayor spoke about the use of such facilities in his channel in the Maks messenger.
Some of the historical sites served Moscow and its residents in the past, while others "continue to do so now," Sobyanin stressed. In particular, the Eastern Water Treatment Plant, opened in 1937, still performs its direct function, the mayor of the capital noted. The facility provides clean drinking water to residents of 26 districts of the capital and some of the nearest cities in the Moscow region.
Another historical site, the Sokolnicheskaya Fire Tower, is located on the territory of the current fire and rescue unit No. 12. Sobyanin recalled that this is one of the few preserved pre-revolutionary buildings of this kind in the city. The kalanchu is still used for drying hoses, and there is an exhibition about the history of fire protection inside. The plans include architectural and artistic illumination of the building.
The head of Moscow also recalled that last year specialists completed the restoration of the Rostokinsky Aqueduct, an object of cultural heritage of federal significance. During the work, the architectural appearance of the 1783-1784 building was restored. Currently, the aqueduct is used as a pedestrian zone.
At the end of March, Sobyanin spoke about the progress of the restoration of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. The repair work on the main dome and domes of the bell towers of the temple has been completed by 90%, and they are scheduled to be completed in June. Specialists have changed about 500 decorative elements made of cast bronze, each of which weighs about 50 kg, the mayor of the capital noted.
