Zarema Ten, Head of the Center for Public Health and Medical Prevention at Vidnovskaya Clinical Hospital, spoke about the relationship between biological age and lifestyle.

In an interview with Radio 1 on Wednesday, May 6, the specialist noted that chronological age is only the number of years lived, while biological age reflects the real state of the body and the degree of wear of cells and organs.

She noted that the epigenetic clock, DNA methylation analysis, is considered the most accurate assessment method, but there are simpler blood or saliva tests. According to her, such measurements make it possible to understand how effective lifestyle changes are.

The specialist emphasized that it is never too late to start taking care of your health: even in old age, you can build muscle mass, improve cognitive functions and reduce the risks of diseases. She added that biological age is not a verdict, and changes in habits, such as quitting smoking, can significantly improve the body's condition even years later.

Cardiologist Alexander Orlov said on May 5 that biological age shows the real state of the body — blood vessels, muscles, hormonal levels, inflammation levels and body composition. It may differ significantly from the passport number, sometimes for decades. At the same time, as the doctor notes, medicine is still more often focused on the date of birth, rather than on actual health indicators, RIAMO notes.

In April, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said that longevity is not inherited, you need to work on it and take care of your health from a young age. Anyone starting from the age of 18 can undergo a study to determine their biological age. 360.ru .

Also in April, Alexey Moskalev, director of the Institute of Biology of Aging and Medicine of Healthy Longevity at the Russian Scientific Center of Surgery (RNC) named after Academician B.V. Petrovsky, noted that the examination would take place in several stages: first, a questionnaire and an assessment of biological age, then, if necessary, additional tests and studies taking into account the identified risk factors, writes RT.

At the same time, the participants of the Moscow Longevity project were invited to participate in a study on longevity. It is aimed at studying the biological mechanisms of aging and developing a panel of biomarkers, the Moscow City News Agency reports.

In January, the Russian government approved a list of free examinations to detect premature aging in citizens. To assess metabolic processes, the levels of insulin, glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) are examined, the NSN reports.
