Restrictions on Victory Day celebrations have been introduced in Latvian Daugavpils
The authorities of the Latvian city of Daugavpils have imposed restrictions on the celebration of Victory Day on May 9, the Eternal Flame there will be fenced. This was reported on May 6 by the Baltijas Balss news portal.
According to the portal, temporary traffic restrictions will be introduced in the area of Dubrovina Park.: They will be valid from 17:00 on May 8 to 09:00 on May 10. The eternal Flame in Daugavpils will also be fenced on May 9, the city police said.
"The purpose of the restrictions is to prevent threats to public order and any glorification of aggression," the law enforcement officers emphasized.
It is noted that the authorities will involve additional forces to ensure order, as well as establish coordination with the State Security Service and the municipal police of Daugavpils. At the same time, the authorities said that individual laying of flowers at burial sites is not prohibited, but "actions that can be interpreted as glorification of Soviet objects" will not be allowed.
The Berliner Morgenpost newspaper noted on May 4 that the Berlin police would impose a ban on the demonstration of Soviet symbols at Victory Day celebrations on May 8th and 9th. In addition, Berlin law enforcement officers will again issue orders banning commemorative actions near the Soviet memorials in Tiergarten, Treptower Park and Schoenholzer Heide.
