Russian citizens who decide to move to another region will be able to keep their mobile phone number when switching to a local tariff plan from September 1, 2026. This was announced on May 6 by representatives of the press service of the Russian government.

"From September 1, citizens will be able to save their mobile phone number when moving to another region," RIA Novosti reports.

It is noted that the relevant resolution has already been signed. Persons who have changed their place of residence and wish to keep their previous phone number must notify their operator by writing an application. As specified, you can submit a petition either personally or remotely.

Currently, as explained in the government of the Russian Federation, a citizen who has moved to another region continues to use the previous tariff plan. This, they say, in some cases makes the fees for calls and communications "significantly more expensive." They also added that Russians faced with such a situation can also save their phone number by changing their mobile operator.

On April 16, Igor Balynin, PhD in Economics, Associate Professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, gave his fellow citizens advice on halving spending on mobile communications. He recommended that Russians evaluate how the current tariff meets their real needs and pay attention to their own payment discipline.
