Psychologist Olga Romaniv told how to protect yourself from bullying in the team. In conversation with aif.ru On Wednesday, May 6, she explained that bullying in a team is usually not related to a person's personal qualities, but points to an unhealthy corporate environment where boundaries are violated and aggression becomes the norm. According to her, mobbing develops gradually — from inappropriate jokes and ignoring ideas to pressure and shifting responsibilities, which causes a person to doubt himself.

The expert noted that strong emotional reactions only fuel aggression, therefore it is more effective to behave as neutrally as possible — to communicate on business, calmly and without involvement in provocations. This approach helps to reduce interest in the "target".

She also recommended relying not on emotions, but on facts: record correspondence, translate agreements into a written format and note cases of pressure. This allows you not only to talk about the problem, but to confirm it with concrete examples.

According to the specialist, it is important not to lock oneself in and seek support from colleagues, supervisors or HR, presenting the situation as a work problem affecting efficiency. At the same time, it is worth calmly but clearly marking the boundaries at the moment and, if necessary, getting out of the conflict without getting involved in it.

Romaniv stressed that not every work environment can be changed: if management ignores the problem, leaving is a normal and mature choice. She added that constant stress negatively affects health, so it is important to choose teams where there is respect and the opportunity to work and develop in peace.

In February, HR expert Yulia Tsygankova, in an interview with NSN, said that a quarter of Russians had experienced harassment from their superiors. According to her, 76% of Russian company employees have experienced workplace mobbing. She added that although the legislative framework in Russia is well prepared, people often do not apply for protection of their rights. 360.ru .

In October, psychotherapist Larisa Nikitina said that bullying can be experienced by both children and adults. To protect against bullying, she says, it is important to develop confidence and the skill of defending personal boundaries. The psychotherapist also noted that in case of regular pressure at work, it is more reasonable to change jobs, and use the experience gained to recognize toxic people and, if possible, not to come into contact with them, writes RT.

Earlier, psychologist and Gestalt therapist Elena Masolova told Izvestia that defending personal boundaries would help to stop harassment at work. She drew attention to the fact that mobbing very rarely occurs in newly formed groups. People have just met, they haven't started forming coalitions yet.
