The imam listed strict prohibitions on Eid al-Adha
On Eid al-Adha, one should not insult, show aggression and cruelty, or deceive. It is also forbidden to eat pork and other foods considered haraam, and to drink alcohol. Imam Jalil Mustafin told Izvestia about this.
"If we talk specifically about the holiday itself, then there are no special "strict" prohibitions that distinguish Eid al-Adha from the ordinary life of a Muslim. What is forbidden remains what has always been forbidden by Islam: aggression, drunkenness, insults, injustice, deception and cruelty," the imam explained.
Mustafin stressed that Islam does not consider the days of Eid al-Adha as a time of gloomy restrictions and prohibitions. On the contrary, the Prophet Muhammad spoke of holidays as a time of eating, drinking and remembering Allah.
"Eid al—Adha is exactly a holiday. It is known from reliable hadiths that during the time of the Prophet Muhammad, people showed joy on holidays. It is reported that on one of the days of the festival, Ethiopians showed spear games in the mosque, and the prophet did not forbid it. This shows that Islam does not prohibit permissible joy, festive atmosphere and cultural traditions, as long as they do not contradict morality and faith," the imam explained.
There are also no special prohibitions regarding food on Eid al-Adha. The usual Islamic dietary standards apply: pork, alcohol, and other foods considered haraam are prohibited for Muslims.
"The festive meal is part of the tradition these days. It is customary to divide the meat of a sacrificial animal: some are left to the family, some are distributed to relatives and neighbors, and some to those in need. This shows one of the main ideas of Eid al-Adha — caring for people, generosity and social justice," Mustafin summed up.
Earlier, Mufti Rushan Abbyasov, Deputy Chairman of the Spiritual Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Spiritual Board of Muslims of the Moscow Region, told Izvestia at what time the prayer on Eid al-Adha would begin.
