A neighborhood in Tyumen is at risk of becoming a giant swimming pool
The Zareka microdistrict in Tyumen may face large-scale flooding in the future due to the structural features of the dam. The structure prevents precipitation and groundwater from escaping, locking them inside a residential area, said hydrologist Igor Kuznetsov.
"The dam, built around the perimeter of the neighborhood, creates the effect of an enclosed space from which excess moisture does not escape, which turns the residential area into a kind of trough," said the expert, quoted by the news agency " <url>".
According to him, the Tyumen region is a region with excessive moisture, where precipitation exceeds evaporation. All this mass remains in the soil and will subsequently begin to come out.
Now there is a temporary drought, when the swamps have dried up and the illusion of security is created, the expert added. With the return of high-water cycles, groundwater will begin to fill the lowlands again.
According to Kuznetsov, the authorities and developers were warned that without sound engineering calculations and special solutions for water drainage, residents of new homes may again face problems that had already occurred in the neighborhood 15 years ago.
Earlier it was reported that Lake Alabashevo, located in the middle of a residential area on the floodplain of the Tura River, may disappear in Tyumen. Clearing the reservoir will improve the situation, but it will not save it from complete shallowing.
