11 more trams will be made unmanned in Moscow
By the end of this year, 11 more Moscow trams will be equipped with unmanned technologies, increasing their total number to 15. This was announced by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin in his channel in the Maks messenger.
Unmanned trams will be gradually brought to the city and run both in test mode and along the route with passengers, the head of the capital noted. "And by 2030, about two thirds of the capital's tram fleet will become unmanned," Sobyanin wrote.
Moscow was the first to launch the regular movement of unmanned trams with passengers, Sobyanin stressed. The first flight took place in September 2025 on route No. 10 Shchukinskaya Metro station — Kulakova Street. Currently, four unmanned trams are running in the capital, the mayor recalled.
Since the launch, the unmanned trains have made more than 3,000 flights and transported over 100,000 passengers without a single violation of traffic rules, Sobyanin said. "They stop on their own, open and close doors, clearly follow traffic lights and let pedestrians pass," the mayor stressed.
The software for unmanned trams was developed by employees of the Moscow Metro. According to Sobyanin, the technology is more accurate and stable than its foreign counterparts and has already been awarded national and international awards.
