The study showed the attitude of Russians towards the first major spending
For Russians, the first significant purchase often becomes not just a financial decision, but a personal symbol of growing up, and jewelry on this list turns out to be one of the most "long-lived" purchases. SOKOLOV brand analysts came to these conclusions after studying consumer habits and attitudes towards the first major expenses. Izvestia got acquainted with the research data on May 7.
According to the survey, 68% of Russians remember their first significant purchase well. For most, this experience occurs between the ages of 18 and 27, the period of the first salary and the beginning of an independent life. It was at this age that 61% of the respondents made their first serious purchase.
At the same time, Russians are more likely to make a conscious choice: 62% admitted that they saved money in advance, planned expenses and carefully chose a purchase. Such spending turned out to be spontaneous for only 38% of the respondents.
More often than not, practical items became the first significant purchase. Thus, 32% of Russians chose gadgets, 19% — clothes and accessories, 15% — real estate. However, almost one in four (24%) preferred jewelry. If the first major purchase was related to jewelry, then in most cases it was a silver product — 68% of respondents chose this option. The most popular jewelry was a ring (32%), followed by bracelets (20%) and earrings (14%).
At the same time, such purchases turn out to be especially significant from an emotional point of view. Among those who purchased the jewelry first, 94% still have not parted with it. More than half (52%) keep it as a souvenir, 17% continue to wear it all the time, and another 14% wear it on special occasions. Only 3% admitted that they had sold or given away their first jewel.
The study also showed that every fourth serious purchase was timed to coincide with an important life event — a wedding, the birth of a child or another personal milestone. Another 23% did it after receiving their first paycheck.
Even years later, the majority of Russians positively evaluate their first major choice: 66% are satisfied with the purchase, and almost one in four continues to use it to this day. However, 43% eventually replaced the first item with a more expensive or high-quality analog.
Today, Russians are willing to spend significantly more on jewelry than in their youth. Thus, 34% feel comfortable in the range of 5,000 to 10,000 rubles, 29% prefer to fit into the amount of up to 5,000 rubles, and 26% are willing to spend more than 10,000 rubles on jewelry.
On April 9, Anna Lisovets, head of the commodity department at 585 Zolotoy, said that laboratory-grown diamonds do not differ from natural diamonds in their physical properties, but they have a different origin and a more affordable price. As the expert noted, natural diamonds are formed in the bowels of the Earth at depths of tens and hundreds of kilometers at high temperatures and pressures. This process takes millions of years, after which the crystals are brought to the surface by volcanic activity, mined and faceted.
