The US Treasury Department intends to impose secondary sanctions against foreign financial institutions and other companies that help circumvent the sanctions imposed on Iran. This was announced on May 5 by the American Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
"Any foreign financial institutions or commercial structures that help circumvent Iran's sanctions will face the risk of secondary sanctions and loss of access to the US financial system," he said at a briefing for reporters at the White House.
