Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that the imposition of sanctions against Russia would mean, in his opinion, a betrayal of the "soul" of the Serbian people. He said this in an interview with Informer TV channel on May 5.

"If we had imposed sanctions against Russia, no one would have gone out on the street, but I would have become (for the West. — Ed.) the most democratic president. But I would betray the soul of our people. And so I showed that I was able to fight for the soul of my people for 4.5 years. We lost a lot of money, missed a lot of opportunities," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

According to Vucic, if Serbia imposed sanctions against Russia, he could be called one of the most "democratic leaders" in the world.

In an interview with Informer TV on May 2, Vucic said that relations between the United States and the European Union (EU) have now reached the point of no return. As Vucic pointed out, he considers the statements of US President Donald Trump about the withdrawal of American troops from Europe to be serious.
