Polish border guards allowed participants in the bombing of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream—2 gas pipelines to pass through without a thorough baggage check, which allowed the saboteurs to smuggle explosives to the site of the terrorist attack. This is evidenced by the investigation of journalist Bojan Pancevski, which was reviewed by RIA Novosti.

According to materials from Panczewski's book "The Nord Stream Bombing: the True Story of the Sabotage that Shook Europe," which was published in Germany, the sabotage group needed to transport a significant amount of heavy equipment. The divers were carrying wetsuits and rebreathers weighing about 40 kg, and a member of the group with the call sign "Freya" was carrying dozens of ten-cylinder containers. According to the author, there were at least eight explosive cylinders in the car for two strands of the gas pipeline, each of which weighed from 30 to 40 kg.

The border crossing took place on Monday, August 22. The organizer of the operation, with the call sign "General", secured the passage in advance by calling an officer of the border guard service. At the checkpoint, the Ford Tourneo car was searched with dogs, but they did not find any dangerous substances. Panczewski believes that the explosives were carefully sealed and odorless.

"A security officer approached their car and asked if they had any souvenirs from the battlefield, maybe bullets or weapons. "Freya" laughed. No, no souvenirs. The employee examined dozens of cylinders and dry wetsuits. The explosive cylinders were about four times heavier than the others, but no one thought to check it," the text of the book says.

At the moment of crossing the border, the band members posed as an ordinary couple. The journalist emphasizes that the border guards did not pay attention to the abnormal weight of the explosive cylinders, which significantly exceeded the mass of standard diving equipment.

Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechaev said on May 2 that Russia is ready for a substantive dialogue with Germany on the investigation of the terrorist attacks on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream–2 gas pipelines. At the same time, Germany continues to ignore all proposals and requests from the Russian Federation regarding legal assistance in the investigation of incidents.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on April 29 that the German authorities continue to delay the investigation of the attack on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream–2 gas pipelines. The investigations conducted by Denmark and Sweden, as Zakharova added, did not yield results, so their initiators preferred to forget about the terrorist attack.
