- The US State Department has approved the possible sale of extended-range bombs to the Ukrainian Armed Forces for $373 million.
The US State Department has approved the potential sale of extended-range JDAM aerial bombs and the equipment necessary for their use to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was reported on the agency's website on May 5.
"The US State Department has made a decision approving a possible foreign military sale to the government of Ukraine. <...> The Government of Ukraine has requested the purchase of 1,2 thousand sets of KMU-572 joint direct strike ammunition (JDAM); and 332 KMU-556 JDAM tail kits," the publication says.
It is specified that the agreement may also include auxiliary equipment and spare parts for the designated projectiles. It will also include a number of accessories, software and technical documentation required for this military equipment.
Boeing, based in St. Louis, has been appointed as the main contractor. It is emphasized that the likely sale will not lead to negative consequences for the defense capability of the United States itself.
On April 22, the US State Department also approved the possible sale of $214 million worth of AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II missiles to the Republic of Lithuania. This action, as specified, also corresponded to Washington's national interests and was aimed at increasing Vilnius' defense capability.
