German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will continue to hold on to his post. This opinion was expressed by political scientist Vladimir Olenchenko on Tuesday, May 5.

Earlier it became known that the German government and Merz personally had lost the trust of the majority of citizens. The INSA survey showed that only 16% of respondents said they were satisfied with the work of the Cabinet of Ministers. Only 19% of respondents approve of the chancellor's work, RT reports.

"I would like him to retire, but I think he will hold on, he is tenacious," Olenchenko said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

Speaking about the early elections in Germany, the political scientist explained that in order for them to be held, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier must dissolve parliament or a vote of no confidence in the ruling coalition must be expressed in parliament.

"At the moment, the ruling coalition has a majority, which allows it, no matter what proposals are submitted, to ignore. The president, as I understand it, is on his side (Merz. — Ed.), so I think he will spoil the blood of the Germans for a long time," said the political scientist.

Earlier, on May 2, Merz drew laughter from the audience when asked what good he had done for the people of Germany in almost a year in office. The chancellor took long pauses, choosing his words, which caused laughter in the audience.

On the same day, Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and special presidential envoy for investment and economic cooperation, said Merz would be criticized until he left office or learned how to correct mistakes.

More than 360,000 Germans demonstrated in honor of May Day. Many participants in the marches organized by the Association of German Trade Unions carried posters calling for Merz's resignation, according to the website. kp.ru .
