Georgia condemns EU for ignoring Victory Day

The European Union (EU) would not have existed without the victory over Nazi Germany. This was announced on May 5 by the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili.

"If it hadn't been for the defeat of fascism and the contribution of 300,000 Georgians who died in the war, there would have been no European Union and Europe Day. This is the main thing that every citizen or diplomat of the European Union should understand," Channel One of Georgia quotes him as saying.

Papuashvili noted that the EU Delegation to Georgia celebrates Europe Day every year on May 9, and European ambassadors ignore Victory over Fascism Day. The Speaker of the parliament admitted that in case of defeat, Europe would have existed geographically, but it would have been suppressed by the Nazis.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on April 30 that Europe was trying to revive Nazism by raising its peoples against Russia. At the same time, he clarified that the Russian Federation traditionally celebrates the anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Finnish activist Sally Rayski, who moved to Russia, said on April 28 that immoral Nazi tendencies are observed in the EU member states. As the woman noted, she started supporting Russia in 2014. And even then, anti-Russian sentiments could be noticed in the EU.
