Sales of new passenger cars in Russia increased by 15% in April
By the end of April this year, 117.5 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 15.1% more than in the same month of 2025. This is stated in the report of the analytical agency Autostat, which was received by Izvestia on May 6.
Lada still retains its leadership among brands in terms of sales, accounting for just over 27% of the market in mid-spring, which is 31.8 thousand units in quantitative terms.
Haval has again become the most popular among foreign brands, with 16.5 thousand copies sold in April. On the third line is the domestic brand Tenet (12 thousand units), followed by Geely and the Belarusian Belgee (6.8 thousand and 5.7 thousand units, respectively).
This is followed by Changan (4.5 thousand units), Jaecoo (3.4 thousand units), Jetour (2.9 thousand units), and Toyota (2.8 thousand units). The Russian brand Solaris rounded out the top ten (2,4 thousand units).
According to experts, only two of the 10 brands represented showed negative market dynamics in April — Jetour (-9.4%) and Changan (-1.7%). Jaecoo and Toyota showed the highest growth (at least 70%).
In total, 382.5 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia over the past four months of 2026. This is 9.6% more than in January – April last year. Sales decreased at Changan (-30.6%), Lada (-9.5%) and Geely (-2.6%). Toyota's sales grew the most, almost doubling.
Yesterday, Alexey Kalitsev, Chairman of the Committee of Automobile Manufacturers of the Association of European Businesses (AEB), noted that the Russian car market looks quite positive in April, sales are showing recovery, but it is too early to talk about the formation of a stable trend.
