Nutritionist warned about excessive amounts of sugar in sauces
Nutritionist Olga Panova warned that popular sauces contain dangerous amounts of sugar.
In an interview with Radio 1 on Tuesday, May 5, the expert noted that fats and sugar in popular sauces can "knock down" saturation signals, which is why a person eats more than usual. According to her, this is especially true for ready-made sauces: cheap vegetable oils and additives are often used in mayonnaise, and the sugar content in ketchup can be comparable to desserts.
The nutritionist stressed that it is not necessary to completely abandon sauces, but it is important to control their quantity and leave such products rather for rare cases. She explained that it is sauces that often increase the calorie content of dishes: for example, a light vegetable salad can become "heavier" several times after adding dressing.
According to her, mayonnaise remains the most high-calorie, followed by ketchup. The specialist recommended limiting yourself to one tablespoon of mayonnaise and not exceeding two tablespoons of ketchup per day, given that it contains a significant amount of sugar.
In April, nutritionist Daria Rusakova told us which sauces can harm your health. Some sauces increase the calorie content and can harm digestion, especially vinegar-based ones. People with gastrointestinal diseases, diabetes, as well as liver and kidney problems should be more careful. 360.ru .
Also in April, neurogastroenterologist Andrey Simakov said that a small amount of sauce in a balanced dish is normal. But if you add mayonnaise to fried foods, sausages and fast food every day, the load on the body increases significantly. Total fat intake should not exceed 30% of the daily caloric intake, and saturated fat intake should not exceed 10%, writes RT.
Ekaterina Pasnova, the chief freelance rehabilitation specialist for children, told whether sugar should be excluded from the children's diet. The expert noted that it is not necessary and almost impossible to completely eliminate sugar from a child's diet — moderation is important.
In November, geriatrician Yuri Konev, in an interview with NSN, said that soy sauce and other salty foods should be consumed no more than twice a week, and it is better to give up salt altogether because of its harmful effects on blood vessels.
