Japanese MP allowed resumption of negotiations with Russia on fisheries
Negotiations between Russia and Japan on fisheries issues may resume after May 20. This was stated on May 5 by Japanese MP Suzuki Muneo, who is on a visit to the Russian Federation.
The deputy said that during a conversation with Andrey Yakovlev, deputy head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries, it was said that consultations on the 1984 fisheries agreement could resume after May 20.
At the same time, Suzuki added that the negotiations could come in person. For this purpose, representatives of the Japanese Agency for Water Resources will personally fly to Moscow.
The day before, Suzuki noted in an interview with Izvestia that it was important for Japan to maintain cooperation with Russia in the energy sector and restore mutual trust. He drew attention to the fact that since 2022, Japan has imported about 10% of natural gas from Russia annually.
