The AEB called the positive dynamics in the Russian car market

The Russian car market looks quite positive in April, with sales showing a revival, but it is too early to talk about the formation of a stable trend. Alexey Kalitsev, Chairman of the Automobile Manufacturers Committee of the Association of European Businesses (AEB), shared this opinion on May 5.

Thus, according to the AEB Committee of Automobile Manufacturers, total sales of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (under the age of one year) in April 2026 amounted to 113.4 thousand units. According to information from JSC PPK on sales of new vehicles based on data on their transfer to owners, the market volume in mid-spring amounted to 117.3 thousand units, which is 10.8% more than sales in April last year.

As Kalitsev noted, the current dynamics is largely due to a combination of factors, including the traditional seasonal revival of demand in the spring period, as well as the effect of deferred demand formed in previous periods.

"At the same time, there are still a number of constraints affecting the potential for further growth. These include, in particular, the continuing price level, the limited purchasing power of a part of the population, as well as consumer caution when making decisions about large purchases," he said.

In total, according to the CPC, in four months sales of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in the Russian Federation increased by 3.4% compared to the same period in 2025 and amounted to 372.1 thousand vehicles.

In the first month of spring 2026, 104.3 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 30.6% more than in March 2025. This result was the best since the beginning of 2026. By the end of March this year, Lada Granta family cars continue to excel in the Russian car market.
