The number of officially permitted bathing areas in Transbaikalia is decreasing annually. In 2024, there were 104 of them, and in 2025 — only 10. These figures were announced at a meeting of the Commission on emergency situations on Tuesday, May 5.

According to the press service of the regional headquarters of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, in the current 2026, the GIMS Center received only two declarations for the opening of beaches.

One of the most problematic areas is the Ivano-Arakhlei Lakes, writes ChitaMedia news agency. Reservoirs are very popular among residents of the region, but beaches there are not declared and places for swimming are not equipped.

In 2025, a ban on swimming was introduced on Lake Arakhlei, but vacationers are not brought to administrative responsibility for its violation. In the same year, two teenagers and one adult drowned in the reservoirs, and two more people were rescued.
