Demand for new cars in Russia increased by 32% in a year
In April 2026, demand for new cars in Russia increased by 32% compared to the same month last year. The crossover and SUV segment showed even more noticeable dynamics, where demand growth reached 39%. The average price of a new car in April was 3.6 million rubles. Avito Auto experts told Izvestia about this on May 6.
As the analysts explained, the easing of monetary policy has a positive effect on customer sentiment, which, in turn, to some extent pushes them to realize the pent-up demand that formed last year.
The largest increase in demand among the brands was shown by the Exeed brand — almost three times. Buyers began to consider Belgee cars 2.7 times more often, and interest in Hongqi increased 2.4 times. Among other significantly increased brands, experts singled out Jaecoo (+73%), whose popularity was helped by a 16% decrease in the average price for the year, to 3.3 million rubles. Changan also showed strong growth (+52%), which further strengthened its position due to a 28% increase in demand over the past month.
Lada Niva Travel became the leader in demand growth among the models (+96%). This is followed by Changan UNI-S (+76%), Geely Monjaro (+76%), Solaris HC (+73%), Haval H3 (+70%), and Lada Niva Legend (+41%). The top ten was completed by Lada Vesta Cross (+34%), Lada Granta (+29%), Haval M6 (+21%) and Haval Jolion (+11%). During the year, the supply of crossovers and SUVs increased by 13.7% and their average price reached 3.9 million rubles. The top 5 brands of this class include Haval, Tenet, Lada, Geely and Changan.
In addition, according to the study, the most noticeable decrease in average cost was demonstrated by Hongqi HS3 (-12%, up to 3.4 million rubles) Belgee X70 (-11%, up to 2.8 million rubles), Omoda C5 (-7%, up to 2.6 million rubles), Geely Atlas (-4%, up to 3.7 million rubles) and Haval H3 (-3, up to 3 million rubles).
The day before, it was reported that the average age of a foreign car, the production of which is organized in Russian factories, is 4.8 years. The analysis took into account passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, which are also produced under new brands based specifically for the Russian market.
