Figure skater Ilya Malinin said that he could not cope with the pressure from the media during the 2026 Olympic Games. His words are quoted on May 5 by The Minnesota Star Tribune newspaper.

"They pushed me to do things that benefit television. They used my attention instead of allowing the athletes to express themselves in the moment and put too much pressure on them," Malinin said.

An athlete in the U.S. national team won gold in the team event. Malinin was in the lead in the individual competition after the short program, but he made a number of mistakes in the free skate and eventually took eighth place.

American Ilya Malinin became a three-time world figure skating champion on March 28. The competition was held in Prague. Malinin scored 329.40 points.
