There have been 288 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.
Over the past day, 288 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 22 people were killed and 334 injured. 19 of the dead were passengers and drivers of vehicles. This was reported to Izvestia on May 5 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
As a result of 74 accidents, 31 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 43 outside their area of operation, three pedestrians were killed, and 71 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 22 underage pedestrians, 13 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway in unintended places.
15 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which there were no fatalities, however, 19 road users, including two children, required medical assistance. The reason for 10 bus accidents was traffic violations committed by their drivers.
53 accidents involving minors were registered, as a result of which 54 young road users were injured, including 16 passengers and four motor transport drivers under the age of 16. One child, a pedestrian, was killed.
So, in Miass (Chelyabinsk region) in the evening, a 21-year—old passenger car driver did not notice in front of him and ran over a pedestrian, a 13-year-old seventh-grader without reflective elements on his clothes, who was crossing the roadway at an unregulated pedestrian crossing, returning home from his grandmother. As a result of the accident, the student died. The motorist who hit him has been brought to administrative responsibility 29 times over the past year.
The State Traffic Inspectorate urged drivers to abandon risky driving, exceeding the speed limit, sudden changes of lanes, overtaking and other dangerous maneuvers. You should be doubly careful on the roads of populated areas and cities, especially at night or in conditions of poor visibility. When approaching intersections and pedestrian crossings, it is recommended not to rush to "skip" them as quickly as possible, but, on the contrary, to slow down to the minimum speed in advance in order to stop the vehicle for pedestrians to pass.
"Remember that the behavior of child pedestrians, as well as underage drivers using bicycles, scooters, and personal mobility equipment, is often unpredictable due to age and the characteristics of child or adolescent psychology. Always leave yourself plenty of time to react adequately to a possible change in the traffic situation at any moment," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
The ministry noted that the lack of parental control on the street for school-age children often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users. Parents are advised to monitor their children's leisure time and behavior in the evening. To improve the visibility of young pedestrians at night, retroreflective elements should be used on children's clothing.
Earlier, on April 30, it was reported that by the end of the first quarter of 2026, the number of road accidents in Moscow decreased by 16% compared to last year, and the death toll by 40%.
