The People's Front held a Fire of Memory rally in the Alexander Garden of Moscow
On May 5, the annual patriotic action "Fire of Memory" was held in the Alexander Garden near the walls of the Moscow Kremlin. The event was organized by the Popular Front.
At the Grave of the Unknown Soldier, representatives of the movement, Russian celebrities and public figures, as well as war correspondents transferred particles of Eternal Flame into special lamps. They will be handed over to veterans of the Great Patriotic War (WWII) in the regions and special operations soldiers on the front line, as well as to 14 foreign countries. For such an initiative, MOSGAZ specialists have developed unique flame preservation equipment.
Mikhail Kuznetsov, head of the Executive Committee of the Popular Front, said that the campaign has been running for 10 years. The organization has been a co-organizer since 2021. This year, the Eternal Flame particles will be given to more than 400 WWII veterans in 71 regions of Russia and 14 countries around the world. According to Kuznetsov, the initiative is aimed at preserving the memory of the heroic deed of the people of the USSR in the Great Patriotic War.
"It makes an incredibly strong impression when these valiant people, who are already over 90, and some over 100 years old, meet this Eternal Flame from the Alexander Garden, remember their feat in the name of the great Victory. <...> And on this day we stand together again and realize what a huge price we have We paid for several generations to have a peaceful sky over their heads," he stressed.
Particles of Eternal Flame will be delivered to hero cities, cities of military glory and labor valor, including St. Petersburg, Minsk, Tula, Smolensk, Nizhny Novgorod, Murmansk, Novorossiysk, Volgograd, Petrozavodsk and others. The first train with fire will be the international Lastochka in the Moscow–Minsk direction.
In new regions of Russia, the flames of the Kremlin's Eternal Flame will light the lights on memorials where they had not burned before. In addition, with the support of Rossotrudnichestvo, the flame will be sent to 10 countries: Abkhazia, Armenia, Cyprus, Kyrgyzstan, China, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Tanzania, India and South Ossetia. Volunteers will deliver the flame to Kazakhstan, France, Switzerland and Germany. The lamps will be given to museums, libraries, educational institutions, churches and anti-fascist organizations.
On April 28, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that military personnel from higher military educational institutions of all types and branches of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will march through Red Square in Moscow as part of the Victory Day parade on May 9. During the broadcast of the parade, the work of military personnel of all types and branches of the armed forces will be shown, who perform tasks in the military area, as well as carry out combat duty and service at the control points of the Strategic Missile Forces, the Aerospace Forces and on the ships of the Navy.
This year, students from the Suvorov, Nakhimov schools, cadet corps, as well as a column of military equipment will not participate in the military parade due to the current operational situation.
