The court arrested human rights defender Lev Ponomarev in absentia.

The Khoroshevsky Court of Moscow has arrested human rights defender Lev Ponomarev in absentia (recognized in the Russian Federation as a foreign agent) in the case of evading the duties of a foreign agent and organizing the activities of an undesirable organization. This was reported to Izvestia in court on May 5.

It is noted that a preventive measure has been chosen against the human rights defender in the form of detention for a period of two months from the moment of his transfer to the law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation, in case of extradition or deportation, as well as detention on the territory of the country.

Earlier, in March, Ponomarev was put on the wanted list in Russia under a criminal article. At the moment, the number and part of the criminal article have not been disclosed.

The Khoroshevsky District Court of Moscow imposed an administrative fine on Ponomarev in 2024. he needs to pay a fine of 40 thousand rubles.
