Two people were killed and five injured in an explosion at the Kazzink plant, Kazakhstan's largest zinc production facility. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on May 5.
"According to preliminary information, an explosion occurred during the chimney cleaning, followed by a fire and a partial collapse of the structure," Kaztsink's press service said.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the country has already reported that the fire that arose after the explosion was quickly localized and soon extinguished.
The Kazzink plant, owned by the Swiss mining trading company Glencore, is the largest producer of zinc, lead, copper, gold and silver in Kazakhstan.
On the same day, the Chinese government's Xinhua news agency reported that 21 people were killed in an explosion at a fireworks factory. According to China Central Television, in the morning, emergency services conducted a rescue operation at the scene in the village of Guangdong, which is located in the city of Liuyang, Hunan province.
