If at the beginning of 2026 Mazda was consistently among the top ten brands in our car market in terms of sales, then from the second half of March the brand began to lose ground sharply. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, told about this in his Telegram channel on May 5.

For nine consecutive weeks, Mazda has been in the top 10 and even climbed to sixth place, and last week it took 24th place with 189 new cars sold. Among other Japanese and European brands, she missed Toyota (548 units), BMW (225 units), Audi (209 units) and Volkswagen (197 units).

"At the beginning of 2026, the Mazda brand became a sensation in the Russian car market. The Mazda CX-5 crossover ideally fitted the new standard of preferential scrap up to 160 hp. And its price, image and consumer qualities appealed to many Russians," explained Tselikov.

In just 18 weeks of this year, 8,175 new Mazda cars were registered. This is the 10th position among all brands in terms of sales in the Russian Federation. At the same time, Toyota took the seventh place (10.1 thousand units).

The expert noted that the CX-5 crossover accounted for more than 90% of Mazda's sales (7,411 units). Its share of the total new passenger car market in the country was almost 2%. Thus, every 50th buyer of a new car this year chose the Mazda CX-5.

The day before, it was reported that in April 2026 AvtoVAZ sold 31.2 thousand cars, which is more than 12% higher than the result of March of the same year, as well as more than 4% higher than April 2025.
