A possible visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin to Miami for the G20 summit would be a major defeat for the West. This was reported on May 3 by Al Jazeera TV channel.

"Russia's presence at the G20 table will give it the opportunity to declare that the world is wider than the Western camp," the publication says.

It is specified that the personal presence of the Russian leader at the international meeting will mean that Moscow has managed to retain its place in key global structures.

According to the author of the material, the G20 format is noticeably different from the G7. This gives Moscow the opportunity to appeal to countries, many of which have refused to support the policy of sanctions. In addition, Russia's participation in the summit will create conditions for direct or indirect contacts with representatives of Washington and other Western capitals.

As noted in the publication, returning to the negotiating table will confirm Russia's status as an indispensable power in many areas.

The Washington Post reported on April 23 that US President Donald Trump intends to invite the Russian president to the G20 summit. It was noted that no official invitation had been sent, however, since Russia is a member of the intergovernmental forum, it will be invited to ministerial meetings, as well as to the leaders' summit. Trump also stressed that Putin's presence at the summit would be useful.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on April 24 that Russia would in any case be properly represented at the G20 summit. He also noted that the country still attaches great importance to the work within the framework of the G20.
