CENTCOM: Two US-flagged merchant ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz
Two American-flagged merchant ships successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz amid the announcement by US President Donald Trump of the start of an operation to restore navigation through the strait. This was reported on May 4 by the Associated Press (AP), citing the US military.
According to the newspaper, the Central Command of the US Armed Forces (CENTCOM) did not say when the ships arrived or when the merchant ships left the strait.
It is noted that the United States-led Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) recommended that ships cross the strait in the waters of Oman, declaring the creation of a "high-security zone."
CENTCOM reported earlier that day that the United States would begin supporting the Freedom Project on May 4 in order to restore freedom of navigation for commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz with the participation of 15,000 military personnel. The Trump-initiated mission will provide support to merchant vessels seeking to pass through the Strait of Hormuz unhindered.
At the same time, the American leader said the day before that the United States would help withdraw the ships blocked due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump pointed out that the relocation of the vessels is intended only to free people, companies and countries that have become victims of circumstances.
