The Armenian authorities have consistently distanced themselves from Russia, and Vladimir Zelensky's visit to Yerevan will lead to even greater problems. This was stated by the Caucasian expert Artur Ataev in an interview with Izvestia.

"Exactly one year ago, Armenia fixed the country's course towards European integration at the legislative level. In modern conditions, if you want to join the EU, you have to help Kiev. Accordingly, Armenia accepts Zelensky on its territory," he explained.

At the same time, the state of Russian-Armenian relations, according to the expert, will depend on the outcome of the parliamentary elections in the Transcaucasian republic, which are scheduled for June 7.

"If the ruling Civil Contract party wins, then the current course will continue, and relations with Russia will continue to deteriorate. If the opposition celebrates success, then some revision of foreign policy guidelines will follow. So far, sociologists have called the victory of the ruling party the most likely option," the source added.

Earlier, on May 3, Vladimir Zelensky flew to Armenia, where the summit of the European Political Community is taking place. In Yerevan, he met with the prime Ministers of Finland, Norway, the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom. A separate session dedicated to supporting Ukraine is scheduled to take place on May 5.
