Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed the Russian government to create an interdepartmental working group on the development and application of nuclear technologies in the field of medicine. The relevant document was published on the Kremlin's website on May 2.

"As part of the implementation of the Federal Scientific and Technical Program for the development of synchrotron and Neutron research and research infrastructure <...> ensure the creation of an interdepartmental working group to coordinate the development and application of nuclear technologies in the field of medicine," the list of instructions from the head of state says.

The order explains that representatives of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), as well as the Rosatom State Corporation and the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center (NRC) will be involved in the work in the interdepartmental group.

On April 10, Putin, congratulating the staff of the Russian Federal Nuclear Center, the All—Russian Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Physics in Sarov, on its 80th anniversary, noted that this center had created unique developments for the military-industrial complex, energy, transport and nuclear medicine, as well as for the exploration of the Arctic, oceans and space.
